Keep guessing, PreK-5th grade Summer Reading participants! Boulder is adventuring about Douglass for the second week.
Week 1–Summer Reading Activities
What a jam packed week! Our participants learned about bees and seeds; crafted projects; read books with furry pals; and crafted more projects! See below for the photo drop of our busy week. More photographs can be found on the Douglass Public Library Facebook Page. Huge thanks to our guest presenters and dog handlers for helping us have a very successful first week.
Beekeeping information provided by Heather Braungardt, owner of Annie’s Country Store.
Jillian and Cally, interns with K-State Research and Extension talked to the kiddos about seed germination and growing plants. They did a great job of explaining the stages of seed development into a plant. Look for Jillian and Cally to return on June 26 to talk about pollinators and make a craft related to that topic.
Twelve dogs and their handlers were at the library for Reading With Rover. The kids love reading to these furry friends!
Wood chip necklaces were a big favorite this week!
Teens and adults created some neat projects using modeling clay and dried flowers.
June Book Displays
Our featured author of the month is Julie Garwood. She authors Young Adult Romance, Historical Romance, and Romantic Suspense with themes of family, loyalty, and honor. The kids display encourages kiddos to camp out with a good book which pairs perfectly with our Summer Reading adventure theme. The adult display features books about projects. Recently added adult non-fiction books are displayed on our “New and True” bookcase. Stop by and check out a book!
