The Douglass Public Library is delighted to announce that the Douglass Historical Museum’s project to digitize local newspapers is now online!

Douglass-area newspapers spanning 1879-1983 can be freely accessed, searched and read at http://douglass.advantage-preservation.com/.  (Please note that tablets may not display the website properly.)

Donations from many people were needed to fund this ambitious project, including the Friends of the Douglass Library, Skip Bucher, Gary Reheis, Kevin O’Crowley, Mike Gash, and all those who made donations in honor of John Woody.  Museum caretaker Kathy Blair spearheaded the project.

What kinds of things might you find in this archive?  

Perhaps you’d like to compare the precautions recommended at the outbreak of the Spanish Influenza pandemic a century ago…  

Maybe you would be interested to know that the moon landing in July 1969 didn’t make the front page – or any page – in the next edition of the Douglass Tribune?

It wasn’t exactly local, you know, and the baseball scores were!

Or perhaps you’d just like to see what was going on in 1879.  The print is tiny, but all you have to do is zoom in to see who arrived at the hotel, what stores were offering, and read the local and national news of the day.
